We made it through Monday! I had a pretty easy day at work yesterday. Grrrr even showed up at the office with a colleague of his in tow (I guess he talks about me a lot with this guy–they’ve become friends), and they took me to lunch at my work cafeteria! It was kinda fun to meet this guy because Grrr talks to me a lot about his work and the characters involved. I like putting faces to names. On Wednesday, another guy flies in from somewhere (Cleveland?), and he’s going to stay at the rental lofts that our building has available for nightly stays. Grrr wants to make him dinner Wednesday night. He is such a gracious host. Seriously, I have learned so much about how to make people feel more than welcome from Grrrr.
Last night we rearranged our flight plans to Europe for our Christmas visit with the kids. Another long story. Oh man, where to start with this one? The short version is this: when Grrrr was asked to leave his home (see entry titled “Day 25…” for background), he needed a source of income, so he set up a business. Very long story even shorter, another company caught wind of what he was doing and tried to take legal action against him. Bottom line is, he’s been fighting for creative (?) rights to the work he’s done and this other company wants to charge him for…get this…industrial espionage!! Doesn’t that sound intriguing?! Sure, kinda sexy when you’re far away from it in another country and they can’t touch you over here. But when your fiance stands a chance of being detained (!!!!!!) by taking the risk of going to see his own children–well then, not so sexy. Not so fun.
So, looks like we’re flying into another country and renting a car for a few hours drive–which we were going to do anyway. As a matter of fact, if we’d thought this through better we would have done it this way in the first place because the drive is actually shorter!! So, more expensive, but in the long run if we are saved from interrogation from the Polizei, it will be money well spent!
Wow, that sounds crazy when I write it down, doesn’t it?! Who would have thought I would be dodging the police in Europe at Christmastime with my fiance just to have a few days with the kids he’s been torn from? Had you asked a year and 1/2 ago, I would have said you are insane!
Let’s see. What other exciting things can I tell you about?
OH! I joined a Nike+iPod challenge!! Have you seen this thing? Basically you put this pedometer-type chip in your special Nike shoe (or in my case, you buy a special envelope to attach this chip to your favorite Fila running shoe, the Flow Veloce (LOVE this shoe!! LOVE IT!). Anyway, the chip is synched with your iPod via another special receiver chip you plug into the power thingie, and it records your workouts, and then you can post your workouts either publically or privately on their Nike+iPod website.
But that’s not all!! THEN! You can post or join challenges with other people and compare notes.
So I was playing around on the website last night, kinda showing Grrr how the whole thing works, when I stumbled a beginner’s challenge called The Santa Challenge, and the challenge is basically to see who can log in the most miles starting December 1st until Christmas. I was laughing and telling Grrrr that I could kick all their asses (um, not really!). And Grrrr says, “Of course you can…JOIN!!!”
So guess what? I did! Guys, I suck at running. But I’m going to try this because I kinda like a good challenge (see: NoJoMo) and I need something to kick-start my workouts again. So let’s hope–NO–let’s DO THIS!!
Okay. Time for Tuesday. I have a MUCH busier day today than yesterday. Thank goodness for being able to start slowly.
Out.
