OK. Done playing around. It’s Friday. Yay! There are good things going on, so let’s get serious about those, shall we?

  • TFMS and I are creating a kids’ room in our loft for when [step]Daughter and [step]Son come in July. They’re staying from mid-July until right after the wedding (mid August). Eeek! They’re gonna need names…I’m sure I’ll be writing lots and LOTS about them. And I’m going to have to practice my German with them. So for now, Hans and Gretchen it is (close enough to Hansel and Gretel without being sooooo Brothers Grimm, but definitely German…cuz German they are!).

Anyway, TFMS has already promised them a super-duper-cool room (I hate it when he makes “suggestions” like that to the kids because then he has to deliver something spectacular. I’m trying to introduce him to this thing called the element of surprise. But I guess I also get that he has all this guilt for not being closer to them, so he makes these grandiose promises *sigh*).

We’re creating a jungle safari room. It’s going to have leaves and vines and a zebra print rug…still need to get the bedding with some kind of cool leafy print…and of course…mosquito netting!! I’m sure I’ll be posting pix of the finished product. I’ve never created a kids’ room before. This is quite an adventure! I guess it gives me some practice, eh? We’re OK with the kids sleeping in one room for now, but pretty soon we’ll all be needing a bit more privacy, I’m sure. Loft living=wide open spaces. Oh joy. Brace yourselves. It’s going to get interesting. I’m just thankful that the X isn’t hanging out with us for a couple of weeks like last year!

  • TFMS and I talked more since my last couple of baby-flavored entries. Man, what controversy I stirred! I actually got some great ammo for further conversation with him from notes here on OD. Bottom line is, I’m NOT alone in this decision. TFMS is completely up to being an equal partner in the responsibility realm. He just doesn’t want to drag out the yes/no argument and he wants us both to go into this with all sets of eyes wide open—think it through and be ready for what could possibly await where a new baby would be concerned. Call us selfish and self-absorbed, but we really do want to do the right thing where children are concerned.

Even still, I’m not ready yet. Yeah, I’m 40 years old. But yes, I do still have some processing to do before (and if) I stop taking the pill. I know that I don’t have a ton of time. But just let me think about it some more. Let me see how things go with Hans and Gretch. We’ll figure it out. I’m not worried.

  • Got our wedding invitations ordered. Another tick off THAT list anyway!
  • Got a “Far Exceeds Expectations” rating during my annual review!! How much does that rock? Can you believe that getting the equivalent of an A+ for this past year only earned me a 1.75% salary increase?! Who’s a girl gotta blow around here?

Speaking of blow, I need to run for now. More bullets later!!
