More interview stuff…mostly notes to self.
So. Apparently during this second round of interviews, I did not WOW the Exec. VP guy as I had done on the first visit. Frankly, I don’t know what he expected. He wanted to meet with me for 2 additinal hours?? To what? Look at each other?
So, the headhunter guy explained to me that it felt like we had the same interview over again. And I’m like, “Yeah? Well, we kinda did!”
I guess what he was expecting was for me to overview their whole line and bring some addtional product ideas to the table.
If he’s been in my interview with the Product Manager, he’d have heard them. However, he was not. So…I should have repeated what I said? I guess so.
ANNNNYYYYway. The Exec. VP wants to meet with me AGAINNNNN! And walk through several retail stores where their product is sold. I don’t know about you, but I’m thinking I should probably start getting paid for coming out to interview! I swear.
However, I am the candidate, and beggers can’t be choosers, and I will figure out how to WOW him again (like I did the first time).
More thoughts on this later, I promise.
Then. I got some feedback on my internal interview here at my current company, which is good/helpful for my NEXT series of interviews with prospective company. I’m just going to bang them out because I gotta roll soon. Here’s what I got:
– Experience. I did not have as much experience as the person who ended up getting the job.
– Strong POV/Strategy. I did not go in with a super clear picture of what I wanted to accomplish if I’d gotten the job. At least not clear enough for them. I can expound, but I’m just going to leave it at that for now.
– Focused Long-Term Strategy. Not sure how this is different, but there you go.
Those were the biggies….then they gave me some secondary points:
– Lead a Cross-Functional Team. Well, I already do that in my current role…sooooo???
– Take a leadership course that they offer at work. Okay, I’d like to do this.
– Be a Vocal Leader.
