I originaly posted this in the CWPD but thought you lot would enjoy it.
Are you aware of the Mormon doctrine of Blood Atonement? It is a quaint little piece of their faith and unlike the practice of polygamy, it is as far as I know still a recognised part of Mormonism. You’re not aware of it? Then let me explain.
Blood Atonement is very simple. Anyone who commits a serious act against the Mormon Church must shed blood for their sins. As one could imagine, this caused the church some problems.
And now know how my religious beliefs work. I am well read in various faiths. I pick my favourite bits of doctrination and dogma and they make up my beliefs. I am no cult leader. I am not like Koresh. I just have issues with organised religion.
And so I have my own belief system. Bits from Bhuddism. Some from Catholicism. Parts from Native American beliefs.
And Blood Atonement. In my case, serious acts committed against me have to be atoned for. Fortunately, I have not yet needed to use this one of my beliefs, my principals. Not yet anyway.
Principals. What a lovely word. Everyone should have some. Anti – capitalism. Kevin Spacey buying someone’s Oscar then returning it to the Academy, stating that Oscars belong to the winners, not those who can afford them.
Give me something I believe in strongly enough and I would die for it. Like my belief structure. Which brings me back to my original thread of conversation. Blood Atonement.
As I have already stated, I have not previously needed to use this. But a serious act has been committed against me. It must be atoned for.
It was my mother. Wonderful woman. But very suspicious. Always thought she could hear people breaking in. As a result she kept calling me round.
The police found her. Skill bashed in with a lead pipe. The killer left a lot of mess. The police have a prime suspect.
Which leads to you. And Blood Atonement. The killer must pay for their sin.
You look nervous. Just remember that your death is a great thing. You died to uphold principals.
You see, she drove me crazy. Calling me at all times, I had no social life. But now I must pay. And I am more likely to get the death penalty, and Blood Atonement, for two murders.
