Maybe I should have written this yesterday, after I found out. But it is easier for me now.

I was first introduced to The Beatles aged about 14, when I watched a programme about the making of Sgt. Pepper. I then asked for a copy of it for my birthday. I became a huge fan.

Now, had George Harrison been in any other band, he would have been the main songwriter, and recognised as a talented songwriter. It was just his misfortune that he teamed with John Lennon and Paul McCartney.

George has been described as the “quiet Beatle” I think the thing was that he was willing to sit back and concentrate on the music. He was also described as the spiritual Beatle, and this is undeniable, with George bringing a mysticism (and the sitar) to the band.

My favourite Harrison song is, unsurprisingly, ‘Within You, Without You’ from Sgt. Pepper. But I also liked ‘Something’ (described by Frank Sinatra as the perfect love song), and ‘While My Guitar Gently Weeps’.

But it was not just in music that Harrison made his influence felt. As pointed out by Aint It Cool News he also had a hand in the film industry, starting Hand Made Films just so that he could see “Monty Pythons Life Of Brian” made.

There is one thing to take comfort in. The fact that George was unafraid of death. As Dumbledore says in Harry Potter and the Philosophers Stone (book): “To the organised mind, death is but the next big adventure.”

Douglas Adams and George Harrison in one year. The Lord must have a sense of humor.

Harrison, Lennon, Orbison, Morrison, Mercury. That sounds like one great gig.

RIP George Harrison.
