My name is William Forbes and I am addicted to Paul Thomas Anderson films.
I first became addicted to PTA when Boogie Nights was released and I worked in a cinema. A film about porn? How long is it? It sounded such a bad idea I had to see it. And I loved that film. I think I saw it more than once.
Mark Wahlberg finally shook off the “Marky Mark” image. The script, camera work, directions, acting, it was all perfect.
Then I heard about other stuff Anderson had done (Hard Eight). I have yet to see it but I know it is good.
Which is why I lept at the chance to borrow my friends Magnolia DVD. Oh my god. If you have not seen this film yet, why not? Go. Now. I’m serious. Very rarely do you get a film with so many realistic and believable characters. Even rarer is when something strange happening seems perfectly normal. I’ve only ever seen Lynch perform that particular trick. There are so many storylines that the fact that they are blended together is amazing.
Then I heard about Untitled PTA film. Which is now called Punch Drunk Love. PTA working with Adam Sandler? Much as I like Sandlers stuff, could he do serious? If anyone can get him to do so it’s PTA.
Then I went to AICN and found this Good old Harry has done it again. The first review ANYWHERE.
This just makes me want to see this film even more. It sounds brilliant. Not a comedy? That’s not what I expect from PTA anyway.
Now if only they would announce a Brittish release date. Hell, I’m there. First day of release.
