Red Dragon in OD

I love the Hannibal Lecter books. I’ve lost count of how often I’ve read them.

The films have been mixed, however. Silence of the Lambs was, in my opinion, not worthy of the praise it has gotten. And Jodie Foster was crap in it. But never mind. Hannibal was great. I wish they had used the ending from the book. But it was still enjoyable for that. And Julianne Moore was brilliant. Shame Anthony Hopkins wasn’t as good as he was in SotL (he was the best thing about the film).

Manhunter was OK. They failed, however, to use a decent ending (the one in the book). And it was too Miami Vice. The guy who played Crawford had a classic porn ‘tache.

But now they are remaking it, reverting to the original title, Red Dragon. OK I’m a bit worried about the director. Brett Ratner. He did well with Rush Hour, but will he be able to cope with something this heavy?

But the cast is a directors wet dream. Edward Norton, one of the best young actors in the world today. Phillip Seymore Hoffman, who runs Norton a close second and deserves massive aclaim for Magnolia. Emily Watson. Harvey fucking Keitel, man. Ralph Feinnes. And Antony Hopkins, hoping to loke younger than he did in SotL. Even if it contained the worst actors in existance, I would still want to see this film. But with that cast? Forget it. When this opens in Britain, I’m there.

And Entertainment Weekly have managed to get pics.

I can’t wait. Yet another film I need to see this year.
