Once my mother seemed to give her approval, the amount of authority that my sister had over me started to really increase. When i got a little older, the internet was just starting to become a household thing and I asked my mom if I could get a computer. She thought about it and then responded it was OK with her as long as it was OK with my sister.
So I asked my sister if I could get a computer and she said absolutely not. She was more aware of the internet than my mother was, and she knew that I would likely use it to look at pornography. She told my mother that she didn’t think me having my own computer was a good idea. My mother then turned around and told me that I could not have a computer.
I have a specific memory of both my sister and my mother punishing me together. I had done something that my sister disapproved of and she had told me to go to my room and stay there for the rest of the evening. About an hour later, my mother called me help her with something, so I left my room to help her.
After I got back, my sister came into my room and was furious that I had left the room after she told me not to. She punished me for it. Then, my mother came into the room and punished me for not telling her that I was already being punished. So the very minor thing that I had been originally punished for ended up turning into a huge punishment.
