A bit tired and Cori should be home soon and dinner’s waiting for him (and me). I am so sick of exploding butter in the microwave. I must not be doing it right. I had to clean the microwave 3 TIMES because the butter exploded when I was melting it. And I’m so careful, too. The 3rd time it happened tonight, it literally exploded right as I was reaching to stop the microwave. -_-
All I wanted to say is that despite having my own Friday shift cut (which I did ask about last Saturday and was assured it was only due to payroll and a lot of shifts were cut that day, and had nothing to do with my performance), I ended up picking up shifts on both Thursday and Friday from the girl who covered my shift the Friday I was in Virginia, Allie. Her mom apparently had to be rushed to the ER so I took her 1-5 Thursday shift (which ended up being until 5:30) and last second she asked if I could do her 9am-1pm shift the following day and I said of course.
Also today I was covering another seasonal girl’s shift (she asked me a couple weeks ago because I think she unofficially resigned since she only got something like 2 shifts this whole month), and I have my own shift on Tuesday and then that’s actually it for the week unless someone needs one covered. Today I was 9:30am-1:30pm but I actually ended up staying until 2 because I lost track of time and we were hella busy. So I actually even got an extra hour if I include the extra time on Thursday.
I don’t like the new email policy… it used to be that if you needed a shift covered, you’d just mass email everyone and provide your contact and whoever could pick it up would call or text you that they could pick it up. That’s how I covered a couple shifts. It seemed so much more convenient than having to call everyone individually, especially if you don’t know the other employees (I’m still meeting people I’ve never seen before). But now we have to call everyone. It’s hit or miss whether everyone’s phone number is actually on the schedule. So needless to say, the only people who would call me are people like Allie or Ashley, both of whom I don’t think are staying past January, and basically other seasonal people.
In any case, this is all I wanted to say. Lately I’ve been panicking about whether or not they want me to stay past seasonal. Well, today around 11:15 or so, Rachel (manager) pulled me aside and said something along the lines of, “So Jaime and I were talking and we both agreed that you would do well beyond cashwrap, and I think when you came on board I mentioned that we would like to put you in fragrance or hair care, and maybe other sections later, especially given your selling and management experience. So starting with the newest schedule that comes out on Tuesday, you’ll notice a shift or two in fragrance and possibly hair care if you feel comfortable with that ?” I was super enthusiastic and said I know quite a bit about hair care, and I do have a pretty strong base knowledge of a lot of fragrance offered at Sephora, and I would love to accept the challenge.
So here’s the thing… she’s talking about post-December 28th. Although she didn’t come right out and say it (and it’s possible they could just see how I do and decide from there), but doesn’t it sound like they wouldn’t bother starting me in one or two new “departments” AFTER Christmas unless they were planning on keeping me ?
