A very dangerous mix in Day to Day

Le weekend was long, because it included Friday. I got a load of Christmas shopping done, and spent the day with the boy. The dragon had to go into work and construct the nativity play set for the reception year children. Saturday was a beautiful day, and I spent a good part of it digging over the allotment. It looks really quite tidy this year. I’ve cut back the fruit bushes, dug up most of the sprouts, and turned over the soil. The garlic is poking through now. This winter I am planning to build a new shed.

Yesterday was Sunday and we drove to Bristol to visit the Chinese supermarket and a few other things.

I haven’t sent my Christmas cards yet, except the international ones. Those I have done.

It was the office Christmas party on Friday. I didn’t go because it was in Oxford, as usual, and I have always thought alcohol and colleagues were a very dangerous mix. There are a a lot of sheepish looking people apologising to each other this morning. Most of the people here are a bit nerdy however and I’m pretty sure no one really disgraced themselves.

I have one meeting today, which has been cancelled. I’m fed up with meetings, so this is good. There is also an office Christmas lunch today. I do quite like the Christmas lunch.

I woke to the news this morning that another extremist lunatic has gone bat-shit crazy and taken hostages at gun-point in the name of Islam. I don’t understand how anyone can take any religious scripture seriously. They’re all as ridiculous as each other. How anyone can become so taken in by it that they are prepared to commit atrocities is a complete mystery to me. It would seem the building is now surrounded by armed police. In a few hours it will end. He will either get himself shot or he’ll give himself up and spend the rest of his life in prison. With luck none of the hostages will be killed or hurt first.

Update, the armed police went storming in and killed the lunatic, but sadly two other people were also killed. He appears to have been a perfectly foul character who may be an accessory to the murder of his wife, and was wanted for more than 40 sexual assault charges. The world is probably a nicer place now he’s dead.
