Run in Visiting

On my walk yesterday morning I saw flashing lights up ahead. Without my glasses, I couldn't see far enough to make out what it was. But it looked like it was 2 vehicles in front of the charter school. The thugs don't have real police flashers--just some amazon knock-offs like the rest of their 'equipment'--so I started running in my non-runner way. I ran a half mile--part of the way on the side of the busy street because of the ice, partly on the sidewalk--whistle in hand. Some drivers in cars that were heading in the same direction as I turned around and headed in the opposite direction when they saw the flashers. The entire time I was running, in my head I was getting more and more determined. Like nope. You are not going to do this at the school in my neighborhood. Over my dead body. Running. The cold air triggering my asthmatic lungs. Don't care. This is not going to happen and I will do everything in my power to stop it. I just have to keep running to get there. Keep running.

Fortunately, as I drew nearer, it turned out it was was just a city water crew. Phew. Relief.

But man. I think of how those emotions I experienced yesterday are happening every day and every hour, with ordinary people in our cities that are under siege. I can only recall one other time in my life where I felt being so driven to act no matter what the consequences to myself. And this is being played out by hundreds of humble, meek people whose every sense of being, whose moral and ethical beliefs, turn them into determined machines so unlike themselves, to put an end to this invasion of gangsters and thugs. These aren't professionals. No, these are ordinary people who won't walk away when another human is in distress and in need of assistance.

As I was telling honey about my 'run' last night, he and I both ended up laughing at me, he to release his concern for my safety, me to release the stress that had built up through the week. And I'm sure I was a good laugh for all the people who had already passed the flashing vehicles and knew it was the water dept. This 62yo woman running down the street with a Oh Hell No expression on her face. Despite the hell the thugs are putting this area through, we still have to find laughter wherever we can.

People have been detained by immigration personnel for decades, but we didn't hear about it unless it was some big meat-packing plant surprise. You know why we didn't hear about it? Because it was done reasonably and humanely and within the rule of law. What is happening now is not immigration enforcement no matter what kind of spin you want to put on it. It is kidnapping, destruction of property, and assault all done criminally and unconstitutionally by masked thugs against citizens, documented persons and non documented persons who are all treated the same. There is nothing legal in what they are doing. They are not keeping us safe. They are not ridding the country of the worst of the worst. They are terrorists.

More than anything, though, is the apathy in the rest of the nation where invasions haven't occurred truly saddens me. We don't have any more undocumented here than anywhere else, less so than Texas or Florida, and yet, there is one thug here for every 1500 citizens who live in this state. To put that in perspective, the city of Minneapolis has 1 police officer for every 750 citizens. And people wonder why we're upset that the state has been overrun with terrorist thugs??

Had our first team meeting at work yesterday since the invasion of gangsters and thugs. It was a very somber meeting and I could see the stress of the invasion on the faces of my much younger colleagues. Our manager is also an owner. The company employs many legal immigrants and naturalized citizens. Our manager assured us that the receptionists have been instructed to not buzz in the thugs to the building and to walk away from the front desk should the thugs arrive. The company will also be posting a private property sign on the front door. I thanked the manager for being an ethical company, unlike some other Minnesota-based companies (looking at you, Target). (But then again, I quit shopping at Target a year ago, when they stopped caring about their employees and community.)
