Despite a storm sweeping across the UK, us in Cumbria haven’t had any snow at ground level. The mountain I can see from my bedroom window is white though, very pretty.
Typically the boiler at work decided to pack in, so we’ve been using electric radiators and a massive blow heater in one of the side rooms blowing out. People are still coming in, but some of them are complaining about it. One woman complained that every time someone opened the back door to get out to the smoking area, it was letting the warm out and couldn’t we have the massive blow heater further out into the room? When I tried to explain it to her, she rolled her eyes and walked away. Nobody is forcing you to sit in our tap room drinking beer. And no one is forcing you to stay on the table next to the door. You could, you know, move closer to the heater. Some people just like to whinge. The massive blow heater is designed to heat up massive industrial spaces, so no, we can’t have it out on the tap room floor!

We had our staff Christmas do a couple of days ago. We decided between ourselves very early on that we’d pool our tips and use them for a party. We had quite a bit, and work topped it up for us. We got a taxi to the next town and went to a hotel that had a steakhouse attached. My burger was delicious, I struggled with the amount though! The bar was crap, the beer choices were Fosters, Carlsberg, Stella etc and the whiskies were Famous Grouse, Teacher’s and JD. My boss laughed at my vodka and diet coke, till I said I’m a beer and whisky snob, I’d rather drink something neutral instead. The other pubs that we went to had good choices of beer, so I let the boss choose for me as he knows his beers and knows my taste. He only got it wrong once, a sickly sweet stout that I can’t remember the name of. I forced it down though, hehe!
We ended up coming back in the taxi and went to one more pub, where I bumped into my SIL and introduced her to my colleagues. I know I’d had too much to drink as I asked her to roll me a ciggy! 🤣
I was ROUGH the next day. I drank 3 pints of water in the space of an hour and they barely touched the sides. I knew I’d just sit and stew, so I promised Eleanor a trip to the seaside. It was freezing cold and really perked me up. Then we went to the pub for some food, I sensibly stuck to hot chocolate.

Weeks ago I decided to do something about my weight. I promised myself I’d get Christmas out of the way, and then when Belle moved out, it incentivised me to finally turn the back bedroom into a workout space. Rob’s stuff is in there now, but he’s very neat, everything is tucked away, and his bed is a futon and he folds it up every morning. Right now he’s in Thailand, so I can use it whenever I like. My weights, resistance bands and yoga mat are in there.
I’ve devised myself a workout plan that involves light weight and resistance work, yoga on alternate days, plus some walking and rucking. I’ve gone all out with my diet....I don’t do things by halves because I don’t work well with grey areas! Whole food plant based and ayurveda friendly (apparently I’m Pitta Dosha). I’ve tried various recipes for the past couple of months and know what I like. Cauliflower with pumpkin seeds and tahini dressing is delicious! I’m not saying I’ll be doing it this way forever, but at least somewhat consistently. I’m enjoying pairing different foods and blending teas depending on my moods and how my body feels. I’m liking having the structure and I have a meal plan and workout plan for the next 4 weeks. It’s nothing majorly drastic for me, the only extra thing I’m doing is the weights, I was already doing everything else. Watch this space!
