so i received the answer. it is a torn meniscus :(
however interesting observation…
when i went to the doctor to get the overview of the mri xrays another doctor came in the room and addressed me. mind you i had never met him before and he is not the doctor i made an appointment with but fine, he is a partner - expert or whatever.
he advised me of the xrays and the first thing he said was it is leaning towards surgery. i appreciated him explaining the issue with that part of my knee and future arthritis and in that conversation advised if i get arthritis there is no guarantee the surgery would help after all
ok ----
so i thanked him and advised him my immediate decision was not surgery and in no way did he mention that i had such a bad tear to have immediate surgery right away. i advised that i am losing weight and thankfully i can walk still however mindful on the steps and getting up but i am still walking. they asked me if i wanted a cortisone shot and i said i was willing to wait before doing that.
my doctor in turn then walked into the room and his direction was different.
he said ---------i should try PT (physical therapy) first along with inflammation/pain meds and if needed the cortisone shot , if all of that works then -------- no surgery.
i agreed and then i left.
i am a walker so of course this is bothering me but i will do my best to work through this.
yesterday i put a salonpass on my knee. DF and i went for a walk at the local park.
slower pace . i did minimum stretching to that knee but did a little.
i was about to walk a mile at a slow pace and then we stopped. i figure that would be enough for now.
no over doing it.
i am not sure if the dr or PT would advise this but i did it and i was happy for myself!
it hurts mostly when i get up so i plan on getting one of those pillows on an incline so if i need it for sleeping that would help me.
i made an appointment to see the PT
that is the next step. it not tomorrow as it is a holiday (i thin) but next monday.
