An Anticipated Good Riddance in The Paper Chase

Gloria and I had lunch today, as we seemingly do at least once a week.  Since neither one of us has much of an appetite these days, we tend to share meals.  At most, we each get a drink of our own.  Today, we split a patty melt and a plate of fries.  Anyway, the meal itself is not hugely important.  As is always the case, it's the conversation that I always find to be enthralling.

She told me that Gurney is looking to transfer to another division within the department and confirmed that he will be leaving our office by the end of the month.  I suppose that means that we'll have to tolerate his presence for just over another week.  I'm counting down the days before he is finally gone.  He was a major part of the nuisance that has plagued our work group for much of the past two years.  I will be the first to admit that he needed to go, because he was definitely a cancer to the work group.  His followers in the clique may disagree with that, but their perspective is definitely skewed.

Gurney struggled with the actual work part of the job that we do.  He was barely organized.  He struggled to mind deadlines.  The actual work he turned in was subpar.  He tended to socialize more than actually work.  I want to call him mediocre, at best.  Rest assured that his leaving the work group is not any kind of crippling blow to any of us, at least not to me.  My hope is that when they replace him, they do so with someone who is more competent, more personable, and someone who is more humble and willing to learn how to the job the right way.  As it stands, he will not be hard to replace.

So the division where he will be transferring to will not tolerate all of the antics that he displayed in the work group and while under Morie's supervision.  That is to say that he has to be very organized.  He can no longer fail to mind and adhere to deadlines.  He most definitely cannot be social, because in his new position, he simply will not have the time to talk much because of all the work he will now be called upon to do.  He won't be turning in reports or really much of anything written, which is probably a good thing because his documentation skills are not good.  I've never liked reading anything he's written.  He might be educated in some capacity, but with the way he writes, you'd never know it.

There is a good chance that Kyra takes up the proverbial mantle when Gurney is finally gone, as I anticipate that she will likely assume the role of leader of the clique that will continue to plague the work group.  I am truly of the mindset that once we are able to get rid of Kyra, a sense of peace and normalcy will return to the work group.  Kyra continues to think that in some way, she has some measure of power within the work group.  She has none whatsoever, but I think that in her head, she does.  She likes to brag about how she likes to "push back" whenever Morie tells her to do something that she does not agree with, but again, this does not mean that she has anything that would resemble power.  Being able to whine, bitch, and complain does not mean that she has any power.  Why she continuously brags about her ability to complain is beyond me.

I told Gloria about Manteca coming by our area yesterday morning and she was none too pleased to learn of that.  Earlier in the week, Gloria had spoken to Manteca's supervisor, off the record, and told her that Manteca is becoming a nuisance around our work area because there is absolutely no reason why she needs to be over there.  Talking to Gurney about food does not count either.  The hope is that maybe Manteca's supervisor would have told Manteca to cut it out, but apparently, that request may have fallen upon deaf ears.  Manteca still waddled over to our work area and lingered there for about 15 minutes, for absolutely no reason, at least for nothing work-related.  She came by and talked to Gurney about food, this as he was wrapping Chortle's birthday gift.  I get the impression that aside from eating food, one of Manteca's other fortes would probably be talking about food.  I anticipate that once Gurney's transfers that Manteca will stop coming by our area.  She is a nuisance.  She does not need to be there.  As far as I'm concerned, she too is worthless.

We hope to eliminate two birds with one stone, so to speak.  Once Gurney leaves, he will be gone and hopefully, Manteca stops bringing her big ass over to our work area once he's gone.

For the first time in months, things are looking up within our work group.
