Closing The Weekend in Life And Times

The weekend came and the weekend went.  Such is time, as well as life.  My weekend was typical fare.  I worked both yesterday and today, as I typically do.  The office wasn't too busy either day, which is exactly the way I like it.  The emptier the office, the better.  Ideally, the office would be completely empty, but sometimes I'm not the only one who has decided to do some overtime.  Saturdays tend to be worse than Sundays, in terms of how many people tend to linger in the office.  I figure that as long as I have my headphones with me and a good internet signal, I can throw something on YouTube and completely ignore the environment, as well as the people around me.  If there's one thing I know how to do, it's ignore people.  In that office and as bad as most of the people there are, this has become one of the skills that I've come to rely on quite heavily.

As I mentioned in my last entry, I am a gamer.  Gaming has been pretty slow these last few months and really, even for the last few years.  Before the gaming landscape became woke and DEI-focused, I used to play more games and I used to buy more games than I currently do.  I now find myself delving more into retro gaming more and more, as I crawl back into a time in gaming when games were fun, stories were worth exploring, and none of this woke nonsense was ever a thing.  I suppose with gaming the way it is today, I'm saving money and spending less and less on games.  I tend to rely on GameFly a lot more than I used to, since I don't have to commit to buying games before trying them.  I currently have two games from GameFly in my possession, with those two being Ninja Gaiden: Ragebound and Garfield Kart 2, both for the PS5.  While I'm not looking to review each game, I'll just say this.  If you're a fan of the Ninja Gaiden series, dating all the way back to its NES days, I suppose Ragebound would be right up your alley.  It wasn't my cup of tea, but it's not a bad game.  Garfield Kart 2 is more of the same, as far as kart racers go.  I enjoyed the first Garfield Kart game, so the second one felt very much like an extension of the first and again, that's not a bad thing.  I don't think I'll get it for the PS5 though, being that I own the first game on the Nintendo Switch.  When the price is right, I'll pick up Garfield Kart 2 for the Switch.  As it stands, I'm done with both games and I'll be sending them back tomorrow.

In perhaps being a more diverse nerdy type than one might anticipate, I am also a sports fan.  I follow Major League Baseball (MLB), the National Football League (NFL), and the National Basketball Association (NBA).  The MLB regular season ended today and when the dust settled, the Cincinnati Reds qualified for the post-season, otherwise known as the playoffs.  It took them until the final day of the season to squeak into the playoffs, but here we are.  The Reds hadn't made the playoffs since 2020, so this sort of thing was much overdue.  I would also like to thank the Miami Marlins for defeating the New York Mets by a score of 4-0 today.  Being that the Reds themselves lost today, they needed the Mets to lose in order to make the playoffs (the Reds owned the tie breaker over the Mets and with both teams finishing with identical 83-79 records, the Reds would win out by owning that tie breaker).  Had the Mets won today, this entry would look a lot different and I wouldn't have worried about the Reds until February 2026.  In looking forward to Game 1 of the first round of these here playoffs, the Reds will take on the Los Angeles Dodgers in Los Angeles, CA.  Game 1 is on Tuesday, 09/30/25.  I am supremely hopeful.  Also, if it matters, I can't fucking stand the Dodgers (or most things that come out of the Los Angeles sports scene), so I'm praying for a miracle because going into this series, the Reds will be massive underdogs going into that series.

I'll be winding it down shortly, being that another work week looms over the horizon and I'll need the sleep to tolerate all the dumb stuff that work and the folks in the office will probably bring into the coming week.  Actually, tomorrow, I'll be getting a form of break, as I'm looking to take most of the day off.  I will be visiting an eye specialist tomorrow for my annual retina checkup.  I have thinning retinas, as well as a family history of retinal detachment, so I'm considered high-risk when it comes to possible retinal challenges.  With the drops they put in my eyes, my eyes will be dilated and especially sensitive to light.  Typically, at least the two years, my eyesight would functionally return before 12pm.  My appointment tomorrow is scheduled for 7:30am.  I figure those drops will hit my eyes just before 8am and dilation will occur before 8:30am.  This visit usually doesn't take more than 15 to 30 minutes, but that sensitivity to light will linger for a few hours.  The last two years, I had rushed back to the office and return to work after the dilation wore off.  This year, I'm not feeling that industrious and I will be avoiding the office completely after my appointment.  Nobody gave a shit those last two years that I came back, so why am I going to exert myself tomorrow?  I feel no need to do so.

Another weekend is in the books.  We'll see what the coming week has in store.  I am not hopeful.  Something dumb is going to happen.  It always does.
