I made a long list of all the things I don’t miss about working now that I am retired. It was a satisfying exercise.
My neighbour Mary has a new puppy. I confirmed that fact yesterday morning when I bumped into her down the street. She was finishing jogging. I was starting my morning walkie. We talked about retirement and about plans and I started feeling better about not having a new puppy.
Just like me and the missus are going to try things out in Kelowna, Mary and her spouse are doing the same in Tofino. I was feeling kind of bad because I was thinking that they were doing things whereas we are only thinking about doing things. They bought a trailer and went out west and back for four months this summer. We stayed home. They downsized four years ago to a small house on our street. We’ve been here for 15 years in a big house with way more space than we need. The list goes on.
But then I realized that we are actually doing too. The winters we spend in Taiwan are a thing. The new condo in Kelowna is a thing. We are just doing things differently and doing different things and a new puppy will not fit at all.
