Just got back from seeing Mockingjay Part 1 at the cinema… we were really really looking forward to it, and I wrote the opening date on our calendar to make sure that we wouldn’t ‘forget’ to go see it. (we often have all intentions of seeing something, but never get there and don’t get to see them until they come out on DVD.) Reviewers said it was a ‘placeholder’ and made me wonder whether it would be worth the trip, but they obviously never read the books… we thought it was very well done and true to the spirit of the series, and I think they made it just right. Yes, it’s bleaker, darker, and it lacks the glitz of the Capitol that we saw in the first two installments, but war is like that… there’s relatively little actual violence, but I found it disturbing and not suitable for children - but a must watch for adults. Saw an awesome trailer for Insurgent - that’ll be the next movie to look out for. Also saw a trailer for the third Hobbit movie that made it look worth watching - but since we never managed to get through the first without falling asleep I’m doubtful… we’ll have to try watching the other two Hobbit movies on our new 50-inch tv - maybe a larger screen will make them more exciting.
