So I bought Robocop - Rogue City on Steam today on discount, 27 quid I paid (usually 45), and it’s pretty good. Dead or alive you’re coming with me, nutshots, I’d buy that for a dollar, etc. Good stuff.

But.

Even though I have a billionty games I haven’t finished, I have a sudden hankering for The Witcher 3.

What is wrong with me. I’ve completed that game almost as much as I’ve completed Fallout 3 (hint: a lot) and my 300+ Steam library, the majority of which is made up of unfinished games, is looking at me with forlorn in its eyes.

You know what I’m saying.

So why am I considering The Witcher 3 again? It’s over. It’s done. Finito. I battered that game and left it whimpering in an alley.

It’s just the world. The “lore”. I’m a sucker for high fantasy. Low fantasy, too. The lowest. The world of the Witcher (and I highly recommend the books, they’re weird) is fascinating to me. It’s a grimdark fantasy setting that heavily borrows (read “steals wholesale”) from real-world folklore and fairy tales, applies a thick, crusty, dark veneer over it all and then throws it in your face like a disgusting, piss-sodden hand grenade. Forget the combat, that’s never been the strong point of the Witcher games and if you’re playing an RPG for the combat then I don’t know what to say to you, except “hah!” and then snort at you derisively. The world building, though? The story telling? Fucking unparalleled.

So yeah, even though I have what certain gamers insist on referring to as a “backlog”, I find myself drawn again to the world of Geralt, the School of the Wolf, and The Continent.

EDITED to clarify Steam price of Robocop
