This entry has been brewing in my mind for weeks now. I’ve wanted to write about this for some time now, but I just never felt compelled to write it down until now. Jasmine already knows about this.
I don’t feel like keeping in touch with people the way I used to.
My job keeps me so busy, trying to maintain a conversation seems more like a chore than it should be. I’ve already mentioned before what a typical day is like working at FedEx, but I didn’t go into great detail about how fast I have to move in order to make all of my deliveries.
On a typical day, I average around 85 stops a day. That is actually a pretty easy day for me. I can average up to 15 stops an hour. The recommended pace is 10 stops an hour. What it boils down to is this: the less time I spend at a stop goes a long way in finishing “on time”. My first pickup in the evening doesn’t start until 4, so I’d like to finish around a quarter to 4. That leaves me enough time to eat before going back to my pickups. I usually leave my last pickup at 6 on the dot. I don’t make it back to the terminal until a little after 7. If I’m lucky, I will make it home at 8:30 on a good day.
Since my day is so busy, that leaves me little time to actually carry on any conversation. The only time I can truly check my phone is when I’m at a red light. Even then, I only have enough time to “like” statuses on facebook and the like. I do have time to browse prosebox, but I can usually only read a paragraph before I have to go back to my delivery duties.
When I do text someone, I hope they won’t text me back immediately. I have to keep a singular focus in order to get through my deliveries as soon as possible. I only talk to Jasmine every so often, but it sucks having to limit the amount of times I contact anyone.
Speaking of Jasmine, we’ve been talking about her flying here in late December to spend about a week with me while her nephews are on winter break. We will also celebrate our 17 month anniversary this Fiday :-).
Well, I’ve made this long enough. Time for to get ready for bed and start another work week!
