I did a bit of a temp job the first three days of the week. Only $8/hour for 18 hours of work, but it was only a couple miles away and not bad. Cori got paid yesterday so today we went grocery shopping (we go about 3 times a month which is better than 4 times a month) and paid for groceries. We took a little day trip past Mt. Healthy (taking the “scenic” roads) and went to a Kroger in College Hill. It was nice to do shopping in a different Kroger, plus we had lots of coupons and even got a few extra things for only $80 and Cori paid for it (I’ve been paying for everything except internet). We took my car which was low on gas and this Kroger had a gas station which meant I could use my Kroger card’s points, so it went from $2.95 to $2.75 per gallon. I haven’t paid that since like… 2006 ???
We even splurged and went to KFC. It was $20 (Cori offered to pay for that, too) but we have tons of leftovers for tomorrow. We also stopped at Walgreens and I picked up some more sinus headache medicine (hard to find, surprisingly, especially with pseudophedrine… but I ran out two days ago and it was definitely helping because it all the pain and pressure and fogginess came back yesterday and today) and he got a flu shot for free. Walgreens didn’t take my insurance, but we also decided to try our luck at Kroger and they took mine so I got one, too ! I haven’t had a flu shot for, goodness, maybe 17 years AT LEAST. I feel like if I’d gotten one after I was 10 I would remember. Cori had mentioned it yesterday and coincidentally mom brought it up on a text this morning and she said since it’s just Cori and myself and we’re both in a new area and have new health insurance that we would be wise to do it, so we did.
It was actually a really great day. Typical fall day; overcast, crisp, a bit of a chill in the air but no rain or anything. I told Cori I don’t think I would mind living in North College Hill after he finishes school if we stay in the area. Granted I was basing that purely on look and feel and I may change my mind, but it seemed like a cool area. We also almost accidentally took Vine Street all the way into downtown Cincinnati. Although I say “all the way” when really we had only driven about 3 minutes away from the apartment. Like I’ve said before, I keep forgetting how close we are to downtown.
I also have an interview with Sephora a week from this Monday. Just seasonal staff… nothing special. It’s in Kenwood which is a bit far but actually it’s the same distance I was driving to Tysons, except I won’t be making nearly as much and with Tysons it was a straight shot down one highway; here it’s quite a bit more complicated especially with construction. I just can’t get away from major highway construction. I had to deal with the ENTIRETY of them building the Beltway Express Lanes in Virginia, used them for a year, and then I move and now they’re tearing up I-75 around our apartment and then there’s some “Norwood Lateral” I need to take that connects to I-71 that then goes up to Kenwood. Blah.
I know I won’t get paid much. But even though I have supervisor experience and am applying for just a seasonal bottom-of-the-totem-pole job, I do hope they offer me at least $9/hour. Maybe I’m being too selfish. I just wish I knew what to do with my life so I could look for a possibly more fulfilling, or at least more career-oriented, job.

P.S. When I lived in Beavercreek, Ohio, from 1996-2005 I got so ANNOYED when people would add an “s” to the names of grocery stores that didn’t have an “s” in the name. People don’t do that in northern VA or DC, at least not that I ever recall… it’s not Safeway’s, or Giant’s, or Harris Teeter’s. It IS, however, Wegmans, Walgreens and Shoppers because the “s” is on their website, on their bags, on their storefronts, etc.
And suddenly here I hear “Krogers” and “Meijers” all over again and I WANT TO SMACK THEM ALL. The horror all came back to me. Especially when one of the people who says “Krogers” actually works at Kroger. I guess 50 years ago when it may have been Kroger’s Market or Meijer’s Deli (they weren’t) it would make sense but it hasn’t been like that for decades so there’s no excuse !! Ugh. The little things that annoy you.
And honestly. Type in “Krogers” or “Kroger’s” into Google and all you’re going to see is “Kroger.” I suppose the only time it is forgivable is in a sentence like this: “There are two Krogers in the Clifton area.” Or “Kroger’s got a great selection of fish” except that sentence has other grammatical errors that we won’t go into because it’s time for bed.
