When I had the ceremony with my husband a few months ago, we called it a commitment ceremony. We’re already married, and we didn’t just want to call it “renewing our vows” because I think it was more than that. We were committing to a new lifestyle of polyamory. And also committing to the fact that I am male and he is gay. I think it was the right thing to call it.

On the other hand, Liz and I have decided to call our ceremony a wedding, even though it isn’t technically a wedding and we won’t be legally married afterward. We’ve spent some time talking about it, though, and that’s what we want to call it. And I will refer to her as my wife after it’s over. I’m going to have a husband and a wife and I honestly don’t think that’s weird.
