Previously I had written about a Feral Cat I had beef tasked with feeding. The last month there had been no sightings not food taken. Three weeks ago I stopped leaving the food as it was going to waste Yesterday in the evening I noticed that the cat was slowly crossing the street and heading for the feeding zone. Happily I prepared a bowl of mixed dry and canned cat food.. I went outside to where I wanted to leave the food and immediately noticed that something was wrong. The cat was laying down on it's side and didn't move as I approached it. Tentatively I touched it and while warm there was no doubt it had passed. A couple of the neighbors also came out and viewed it and expressed sadness as a neighborhood icon had passed on and left a void. I carefully moved it into a garbage bag and left if with my trash. This morning when I left for work it had been collected. Driving out of the block I actually felt a deep sadness.
