Busy-busy, Dumb People, etc.... in A New Beginning

Well of course I’ve been busy. But I have also felt very energized! Last Wednesday I took a sick day. IT WAS JUST WHAT I NEEDED!! I wasn’t sick, but I had been having a really bad cramp in the back of my left thigh since the weekend, and I just decided that enough was enough. Aches and pains happen, but life is too short to go around for days with a muscle cramp if a trip to the doctor can probably fix it. Actually, it seems that by Wednesday the cramp had run its course anyway. The doctor gave me a prescription, but I had no more leg cramping even before I started taking it.

He said it’s back-related nerve pain, which seems to be what it always is with me. He had me get x-rays of my lower back to see if I have lumbar stenosis as well as cervical stenosis. And he said, “Maybe it’s time to send you to a spine specialist.”
I don’t know about that, but it is time for me to start being more careful about how I do things at work. I lift stuff that’s too heavy a lot of times. Sometimes you have to, working in a kitchen, but other times you can lighten the load by, for example, carrying a few pans at a time instead of a stack of ten! I AM using a cart lots more this year, but I can also be MORE careful.

But in the meantime....gosh it was nice, having the glorious day off, right in the middle of the week. I had only Guinness here, but no one else! My doctor’s appointment wasn’t ‘til 3:45, so it truly was a whole day off! I thought of it as “the glorious gift of a day.” If I get to feeling way over-frazzled again, I might just take a sick day to restore my energy and spirit. Of course I won’t say that when I call in sick! Sophia wouldn’t understand....well, or maybe she has done it too; who knows? I will say I’m sick! Because after all, frazzled is a kind of sick!!

So that was last week. This is a four-day week too, because Friday is a teacher inservice day. And we have another one on October 31st!! I am tickled! This was a major factor in me deciding to stick with food service instead of applying for a teacher’s aide position. There’s quite a few days when THEY work and WE don’t. And that is how I like it!!

Joe’s Dad’s house has finally sold, and that means that we will be getting some money, right when we need it. Mostly we do just fine, but it has been a damn poor last few months, with the property tax being due in one big fat lump sum and all. Mind you, we’re not going to be rich from the sale of Dad’s little house.....with the money divided three ways, and Joe’s sister Ginny taking a really low price for it (because it was the only offer we got for it in more than a year!), we will not get much apiece. But to us it’s plenty!! It will be plenty for us to, AT LAST, be able to get our bathroom re-done!!!!! I should just say “to re-do our bathroom,” because we never pay anyone else to do stuff with our humble little abode. Can’t afford that!! Whatever gets done, we....mostly Joe....do it. I am super-thankful that he CAN do things, and that I have the good common sense to be pleased with his home-handiwork, rather than wanting fancy “perfect” things.

Anyhow.....that is all I wanna write for right now, so I’m just going to stop writing! ;o) !! Thanks, my friends who stopped by to read my entry! :o) !!

hugs and blessings,
Nicky
