i remember that night like it just happened
down to what you were wearing.
there was laughter and lights and nonsense
plenty of running and lots of swearing.
you sat on the swing to my right
and we watched the river flow by
we hardly spoke but i knew you heard me think
even when i wouldn’t look you in the eye.
suddenly it started to rain
and i expected you to leave
but instead you stayed still on your swing
and i wiped my face with my sleeve.
we started to talk like nothing was different
like it wasn’t just suddenly pouring
here i had worried you didn’t like me;
that maybe you found me boring.
weeks later you said you loved that night
and it made you fall for me more
it was nice to hear, since i loved you too
all the way down to my core.
