So my Cassandra was running a fever when I picked her up wed night. I gave her some nyquil when she went to bed. On Christmas day we got some children’s motrin to give her and we went to Tommy’s family’s house for gifts and christmas dinner.

Cassandra still wasn’t feeling well, she had a tantrum during gifts opening and didn’t eat much of anything at christmas dinner, just a few spoonfuls that I coaxed into her.

We came home and I changed her out of her christmas dress and got some supplies ready and Tommy drove us to the ER.

We were seen pretty quickly which was good, the waiting room was pretty empty. This was around 6:45pm that we were seen.

We had to hold her down to get some blood and an IV in her. They were pretty quick about it so it was only a few minutes of trauma for her. She peed in a hat in the toilet so no cathaterization was needed.

She was given fluids because of dehydration and she got her first dose of IV antibiotics at 9:00pm. She had a urinary tract infection like I suspected.

The nurses were great and they were very greatful for my presence. I made things much easier on everyone.

I stayed with her in the ER overnight and then Friday morning Tommy and Mommy came and picked me up and brought me to IHOP to get some food in me and just to get a break from everything at the hospital. They also brought me a new supply of diapers for Cass.

By the time I got back around 11:30am the ER waiting room was packed, standing room only type. I went back and chilled with Cassandra who was mostly sleeping. She kept spiking a fever every few hours around 103F each time.

We were moved up to a room around 6pm in the cancer hospital. There were no other beds available and since Cass wasn’t contagious, it was okay to have her on the cancer floor. The room was NICE, omg. there was a table and two chairs in a corner and the big recliner near the bed and then there was an alcove with a couch!! The couch folded out into a small bed for family.

As soon as intake was done and vitals and all that I asked for a blanket and some sheets and I folded that bad boy out and actually laid down for the first time in 2 days. It was heaven I tell you.

I wasn’t sleeping deep at all, I was on alert you know for Cassandra or anyone coming into the room.

Friday night around midnight her fever finally broke and stayed down. Saturday morning she ate her whole breakfast (with me feeding her) and she was sitting up playing with her magazine pages and a marker that I pilfered from somewhere.

I left around 11am because I just wanted to go home and have real bed and you know a shower and stuff. Cass was doing okay, looking a lot better and I figured she would be okay for a few hours without me.

She was discharged on Saturday afternoon. Ms Scott picked her up and she went home with her, so that was good. I got an update today from Ms Scott that she is doing well, she’s been eating and drinking enough and stuff. She was sent home with oral antibiotics for the next week.

So that was my Christmas adventure. phew…
