We had to take our little Tessie girl to the vet today... when I was in the bathroom this morning she came in and squatted in the litterbox and wiggled her tail like she was going potty, then she got up and sniffed at the litter as if she was puzzled why there wasn't anything there, and she did it three times in pretty quick succession right in front of me... oh no! They say cats with a UTI will try to get your attention by doing that kind of thing where you can see they're in distress... I cleaned the box so I could get a better 'look' at her output and put her into the clean box to try again... she was a good girl and obliged but she only produced about two drops of pee and they looked very dark (as much as you can tell when she's peeing on grey clumping clay litter!) So off to the vet we went...

She was so scared - I think she was remembering her last trip to the vet when they knocked her out and took her fangs away from her... but she was a super good girl. I put her blanky into the carrier so she'd have something comforting to sit on, and when she unfroze enough to start trying to find some place to hide I opened it up and folded it right over her so she could hide inside it, and it made her feel much safer... the vet did his thing and got a pee sample out of her and then they tested it and said that yep, she has a UTI... there were red blood cells, white blood cells, AND crystals in her sample. So we have to give her an antibiotic for two weeks (thank goodness she's small and light enough for us to be able to pill her because it's not a shot or a liquid...) and then take her back for another test to see if the crystals are gone. They might be just because of the infection, or else she's going to need her own special kibble... I sure hope she doesn't - it's okay giving Zho-Zho special vet kibble, she eats everything you put in front of her in five minutes flat, but Tessie is a grazer and she expects to come back to her dish about six times a day and find something there to eat (and the others use her dish as the kitty buffet - if they get hungry enough, they'll climb up on the dresser to graze, which isn't easy for 15/16lb cats... and I figure that if they're going to all that effort they've got to be REALLY hungry and they deserve it for making the effort! lol) Anyway, I hope she'll be okay... but my mommy sense was right on the money when I thought there was something 'off' today.
