Liz's birthday is the 18th. For the past several years she has been just 'the other woman' in my life and I have tried to do something nice for her birthday but never anything over the top. This year will be different as she has taken a bigger role in my life. She is certainly not just the other woman anymore, particularly as we prepare to have some sort of commitment ceremony or wedding.
I told my wife that she ought to get Liz something nice for her birthday as well, and of course she eager agreed with that idea. We ended up talking about gift ideas for a while. I told her that I'd likely be taking Liz somewhere very nice and a great gift from my wife would be a complete new outfit.
I explained that she should get bra, panties, dress, heels, handbag, and at least one piece of jewelry. I thought that might seem overwhelming, but she loved the idea.
After we talked about that, she asked me if I would be buying Liz and engagement ring. I know she had talked to Liz about rings, but it hadn't come up in our conversation about the proposal. I was wondering if she would bring it up later. I responded that I hadn't really thought about it, but it sounded like a nice idea that I knew Liz would appreciate.
She told me she would like to chip in for the cost of the ring, particularly since she never gave me one back when we got engaged (for anyone new to reading me, she identified as male at that time). Just being playful, I mentioned that she didn't need to spend 3 months' salary on the ring, but I would appreciate any help. Doing some quick math in my head, I figured she makes about $10,000 per month. I wondered how much she was willing to "chip in."
