Wow that was a quick 2 days! We are headed home from my parents now. I love how Mike prefers to drive when we go out as a family because I much prefer to be a passenger on a long trip and read a magazine or something.
The boys had a pretty decent birthday yesterday. It was kind of exhausting though because Miles caught a cold on Friday out of the blue so by his party yesterday he was a tired, congested, cranky mess. He had some fun crawling around and looking at his new toys but he definitely slept a lot more and ate less than usual. And he was so tired by the time we gave him a slice of cake after dinner at 7pm that he just started screaming and rubbing his eyes. He wanted nothing to do with the cake which sucks cuz it's always fun to see a babys first experience with cake. We'll try again. There's lots left.
Cody enjoyed ripping open his gifts and playing with them as well as with his 5 year old cousin. We made huge bubbles for them and he played golf, baseball, bowling and catch. He absolutely loves sports and will play games all day with anyone who is willing. As a result he started having multiple meltdowns even before dinner because he was so tired. Then he surprised us by bursting into tears when we sang happy birthday lol. That was so unlike him. I just sang it to him on Wednesday! Wtf. But he was fine once he had some cake in his mouth. My mom had a lot of fun the night before decorating the cakes. She iced the soccer ball one for Cody and I iced the Elmo one for Miles. They turned out pretty good. I would add a picture here if I wasn't typing this from the car.
So yeah we had lots of fun. I always enjoy chatting and snacking with my parents, brothers and SIL. The kids got a decent amount of presents but not too much because they all knew we have a lot of stuff already. They all gave some money and/or gift cards for the boys so we now have $175 in gift cards for walmart and $100 for stuff they'll need in the future. I'm very happy about that because I know Cody is going to need a new winter coat, boots, a hat and who knows what else. I'm going to make sure I only spend it on stuff for them because it's way too easy to just go to walmart and blow that on random stuff. Cody's favorite gift is a trike my parents got him. The only problem is my parents didn't read the tricycle info because it says for ages 1.5-3 and not to be used past 36 months or 37lbs. Well he's now about 35lbs and 36 months and when he was driving it around his knees were almost hitting the handlebars. I didn't want to say anything to them to make them feel bad. The worst part is they lost the bill. I know Walmart will take it back but I think those small tricycles are the only ones they have and they're only going to give me store credit if I don't have the receipt so I can't buy a bigger one somewhere else. So...not sure what to do at this point.
Oh and Cody and I woke up with colds also today. My throat is so sore right now. Awesome. Did I mention we are going to that new Costco that just opened up 2 days ago right now with sick kids who will have been in the car for 2 hours when we get there? Ya soooooo not a good idea but Mike really wants to go. It's going to be insane :/
