I said NO to Trader Joe's. It wasn't a good feeling. I gotta go with my feeling. You know you made the right decision once you've made it you feel amazing. Well, I had those two interviews today:
- Christopher Elbow Artisanal Chocolates
- 826 Valencia
Both interviews went amazing and something about both of them made me realize the moves I make from here on out are incredibly important. I need to do whats best for me and in my best interest. I'm not doing anyone any favors by being miserable, sad, or self deprecating. And it's certainly not aiding me in my body positive and self loving future.
So in short, just so I can recap, Elbow was an amazingly smooth interview with a lovely woman and a peaceful atmosphere. The chocolate is amazing and their caramels as smooth as can be.
The interview started early and ended on time, and although I thought I had to take the bus to get to 826 I actually had enough time to walk that 1.2miles. Down Hayes and Gough, to Market and Valencia. Burrito joints, bike shops, vintage furniture shops, coffee after coffee and more coffee and chocolate with outdoor seating and women that wave their hands while making emotional conversation. I've been wandering around San Fran the past few days on my own. Navigating and getting lost, eating alone in restaurants, and exploring shops. It seemed all natural, all sunshine and smiles.
I miss my boyfriend, but I think the timing was appropriate. Only 20 days in California and it's on day 22 do I feel comfortable here. Maybe not acclimated or fully adjusted...that may not happen for a while...but who's keeping time?
I grab a burger, eat some salad, and walk across the street to 826 Valencia Street. I was greeted by the woman who was going to interview me and I immediately knew I was in for a treat. Needless to say after two hours of conversation and honest avenues of communication, I was offered the Educational Programming Intern position for their Field Trip sector. Words can not describe how happy I felt and am currently feeling. The companies vision and mission is something I hold dear to my heart. I love their ideas, their creativity, and what they do at the center. I finally feel like I'm using all of my skills to the test and am now in a position where I can make a positive change in someones life. Despite it being unpaid, I believe this will be a wonderful, satisfying, and gratifying experience! HOORAY!!
Side note: during the interview, Airbnb was there to photograph an event and ended up photographing me and the interviewer (roughly 15 times) and we had to sign a waive to use the photos! Fingers crossed I'll be in the next, and first, issue of Airbnb's magazine!
And finally. I've been in California for 22 days. What have I done? - finished one summer class and started another - applied for numerous jobs - had 8 interviews - got a job, left a job - said NO to 6 jobs - moved into the apartment - bought a bed, a tv, kitchen appliance. - no longer need a GPS to get around the area - bought a Clipper card and know how to use the Muni - made some friends - saw two comedy shows - started a blog
I'm doing some pretty awesome shit and it's only gonna get better.
