Drove out to Virginia on Saturday... drive was fantastic. Not sure when I'm coming back--I obviously have to be back on Sunday since I'm flying out Monday evening to Minneapolis but the weather looks like it may be stormy. Ugh. I don't mind bad weather, but since having to drive through Cumberland and Frostburg in zero visibility fog... kind of scary.

Mom has been helping me get a few more things for the apartment, seriously, I don't know where I'd be without my parents.

Dad is in Wisconsin right now so he stopped halfway and I got together with him in Dayton on Wednesday and he brought the TV and a fan and my desktop and a few other things, so he saw the apartment and put his seal of approval on it :) I will post photos once Cori and I are settled, maybe towards the end of July. Dad left Wisconsin this morning and will stay overnight on the Indiana/Ohio border and then get back to Virginia tomorrow, so I'll see him again for a couple days before leaving.

I am excited that I got a side table and coffee table and 6'x4'4" area rug and round rug from IKEA for under $60. And I think I've decided on a bed frame for us... oh, did I mention I did buy a mattress ? I wanted to spend less than $600 for everything but all the cheap mattresses I found were SUPER firm and felt like cardboard, and I already asked Cori his preference and he said anything would be an improvement over his current mattress--a twin that you can feel the coils through--so I went with a Sealy Posturepedic like my current full size mattress, but no pillow top, and it's a plush mattress but leans towards the firmer side--for $620. That includes delivery, set up, frame, mattress and box spring, 4 pillows, mattress pad, and a $100 AmEx gift card LOL I know I could have spent less, but I also know I could've spent more. I did shop around a bit and for the price, I really loved this particular mattress. So we'll be getting that on the 21st.

Anyway, the bed frame from IKEA that I like is one that they used a standard box spring for on the display (I would like to avoid the bed slats...) so I won't need to buy the slats. It's the HEMNES bed frame in black-brown. I think IKEA's website shows it with the slats but it will work with a box spring too. Not sure if the frame that comes with the mattress will work, so I may need to double-check that, but honestly the IKEA bed can be put on hold as long as we have the frame in the meantime, no hurry. And I have two air mattresses that dad brought from Virginia (he brought two because he thinks one has a leak) so we'll be okay for sleeping in the meantime since we will probably try to leave very, very early on the 16th or 17th at the latest.

It's so damn hot here. And let me say... I only moved about a month ago but it already feels truly like coming "home" for this visit. I've never felt that before. Even when I was in Paris this month in 2010 (July 3rd-31st) when I came home it wasn't the same because yes, I'd been gone a month in a foreign country and lived on my own for those 4 weeks, I still hadn't moved or anything. I didn't have to find an apartment or start looking for jobs or start outfitting said apartment.

Anyway. I'm also a decorator so this trip, since I know what space I'll be living in, I'm bringing most of the decorations in my room that I've accumulated over the last 10 years. I know they aren't necessities but I like feeling cozy where I'm living and I think this will help. I just don't know what I'll do about the walls. I love CommandStrips but I just don't know what to put !

So yeah, hopefully by the end of the month the apartment will come together, we will have Cori's furniture and the furniture that Catie is giving me all set up, everything will be stored and unpacked, and it will be a home for me and Cori :)

P.S. When I was having dinner with dad almost a week ago, he said, "You know, Rach, if anything ever happens, you always have a home to come home to with me and mom." My first thought was he meant if, say, Cori broke up with me or I broke up with him and that idea makes me sad. BUT then dad added, "And Cori too, for that matter."

My jaw dropped. Not only did dad obviously mean like, the apartment burns down or something awful happens that DOESN'T have anything to do with our relationship, but he also invited Cori (not ideal for him, I know) because Cori doesn't really have family he can count on. He has John in Minneapolis but that's about it aside from me and my own family. I told mom what dad said, and even SHE was absolutely shocked. Mom has always told me Cori is welcome in our family and home but she was stunned dad literally, dead sober, just told me that Cori also had a home with my parents. So... that was really, really sweet.
