Pen Pals in Squiggles

One thing that I have noticed, there are not many traditions people keep alive from the olden days. I mean, that’s one way of depicting modernism. Especially an age old practice as having a pen pal. But even in today’s time - I managed to get myself a pen pal.

The circumstances were quite strange. You may ask - what’s the big deal? There are so many groups for people wanting pen pals. But that’s just the thing, it wasn’t through any group nor social media. I never went to reddit, facebook or joined random telegram groups. It was purely coincidental, but here’s the catch - the person is an ex of my best friend.

Now according to social norms, this friendship should be forbidden. But before forming relationships, people are just people. It’s the timing and circumstances of a person that tie them into these social norms. This person understands me better than most of my friends. We have been speaking for 3 years straight, have gotten into arguments, have supported each other in strenuous times and been there for each other through thick and thin without ever even meeting each other.

It’s purely friendship, no other feelings are present but still we get this pressure which leads us to creating a false story of our friendship whenever someone asks us “How do you know each other?” Yet, we don’t want to succumb to “normie” critique.
