Bacon. in So Far Away

I woke up to the smell of bacon, and coffee.
I stretched, rolled over to see my husband, but he was gone already.
How did I miss him getting out of bed?
I don’t know why this caused me to panic, but it did.
I quickly got out of bed, and dressed. I made my way to the commotion in the house.
The closer I got, the louder I could hear the playful laughter.
I thought for a moment, alright, this is it! I’m gonna catch him in the act…
No, I didn’t. I rounded the corner to see him, Genevieve, Amos, and two other party goers from last night.
In a matter of seconds, I fluctuated from panic, to adrenaline/anger, to surprise.
“Good morning! Want some coffee, my dear?” said Genevieve, a little too upbeat for my hangover.
I gladly accepted my coffee, and grabbed a plate of food.
I eyed my husband, whom I hated to admit looked amazing as always.
How does he always have a glow to him?
Even on his worst day, he looks amazing.
I shrunk a little, I felt a bit insecure.
This caused me to observe everyone else.
Genevieve was already put together for the day, she must have gotten up really early.
Amos was in some jogger pants, and a gym t-shirt.
Alyssa (whom I learned is the office secretary) was wearing some of Genevieves clothes, apparently she hadn’t planned on spending the night.
Sarah (Office Accountant) was wearing a dress that was autumn colors, and seemed very chummy with Genevieve. Her makeup was on point too, so I started wondering what time she got up as well.
I did learn Sarah had planned to stay the night ahead of time.
I learned this because Genevieve interrupted my observation time, “I’m so glad you two spent the night,” she almost cooed at my husband, who had a big smile on his face.
“Couldn’t say no! Especially after Sarah had made it sound so appealing,” he grinned.
My eyes shot over to a very smug Sarah, she was proud of herself.
Hm?
Alyssa held her cup up at Genevieves and Sarah’s comment, and the 4 of them jokingly clinked their coffee mugs.
Amos sarcastically turned around and said, “Don’t forget about me!” and participated in the cheesy cheers.
I just sat there quietly in my head space, I sometimes forget to participate.
I noticed my husband glance in my direction, with a half smile.
I realized I was still wearing my costume (nurse smocks). Maybe it was obvious.
Genevieve piped up, “I have some leggings and a shirt that I think might fit you! Would you like to go through my clothes, sweetie?”
I looked over to my husband, whom was wearing track pants and a t-shirt. Where did he get those? Must be Amos’.
“Uh, sure.” I replied apprehensively.
Sarah smirked at me, “Go! She’s got a lot of great stuff to wear!”
Hm. Okay, but these people are so accommodating. I felt like the Grinch.
As I walked out of the room with Genevieve, I looked over my shoulder at my husband.
He was already focused on Sarah, hanging onto her words pretty intently. Neither noticed that I noticed them. Of course my brain goes haywire, maybe it’s HER that I need to watch out for.
I picked out some black leggings, a long button up shirt. Luckily Genevieve is close to my height and size. When I returned to the kitchen, Alyssa and my husband were gone.
I glanced at Sarah, my initial culprit. “They’re on the deck.” She said coldly.
I forced a smile, “Thanks.”
I went out onto the deck to join Alex (my husband), and Alyssa.
They both stopped talking and looked over at me, she said, “Hey sleepy head, you look great.”
I asked how long everyone else had been awake, and she said they had gotten up 2 hours before I did.
I looked at my husband and he smirked at me, “You were sleeping really hard, you looked so peaceful.”
I gave him a “Yeah right” face and moved on.
I told him we should go home soon, and he said he wanted to stay for a while longer. I rolled my eyes, and joked that I was going to leave him behind.
“I can give him a ride home,” Alyssa said a little too eagerly.
Not over my dead body! We stayed until lunch.
Everyone participated in the cooking, which seemed like they had all done this before.
We ate, cleaned up the kitchen, and then we left.
I still have Genevieves clothes, I should probably return them…
