Halloweenie. in So Far Away

Ah, yes. The company halloween party.
The second work event that I’m allowed to attend.
Did I want to go? No.
Why not? Because this job has messed up my marriage, and essentially my life.
The party was at his bosses house, which at this point is not so surprising.
I’ve skipped over some events, but I didn’t think you’d want to hear about all of the dinners my husband has been going to on the weekends with his boss, and bosses wife.
Sometimes his boss is there, but so far a majority of the time it’s just Genevieve and my husband.
My mom suggested it was strange how much time they take of his, but I keep trying to push that to the back of my mind.
Amos has taken a liking to my husband since he started working there 2 years ago, and everyone has joked that Amos and Genevieve has adopted my husband.
I got sidetracked…back to Halloween.
My husband was dressed as a doctor, I was dressed as a nurse (not authentic, I know).
As soon as we arrived, he was swallowed by the crowd of people excited to see him.
I followed him around like an invisible puppy.
I strangely was happy to see Veronica this time, it was a familiar face.
We stopped and talked to her for a few minutes, and he went off to mingle.
I stayed by the food table, and of course the punch bowl. I kept the drinks flowing.
I made friends with the caterer/drink server, and talked to her for most of the night.
I lost track of my husband, and Amos had come up to me asking if I had seen him.
I said no, and he didn’t seem interested in talking further as he rushed away.
Veronica smirked at me and said, “Yeah, I haven’t seen him for awhile either.”
She had a look as if she were waiting for my reaction.
I laughed it off and said, “He’s a popular guy.”
It was about 45 minutes later and my husband reappeared.
He came up to me with a big grin, and brought me a shot of something.
“Cheers! Happy Halloween!” he said, clinking my glass.
He asked if I was having fun, and I said I wasn’t.
He led me to one of the many gaming tables, and we found ourselves playing a modified Uno game.
I was ready to leave after a couple of rounds of that, and the party was winding down quite rapidly.
Genevieve was persistent that we stay the night, but I wasn’t for that idea.
She offered to make breakfast in the morning, and she really wanted us to spend the night.
My husband kept saying it was a good idea, and that he didn’t want to pay for an Uber.
After some convincing, I finally agreed, and she led us to the guest room.
We fell asleep fairly quickly, as we were both a bit intoxicated.
