Two days later, he went on a business trip.
I was left home alone with my thoughts, and worries.
I tried calling him when I knew he’d be done with work, but he didn’t answer.
My anxiety went into overdrive, and I sent one too many messages.
He eventually called me, and it was very late.
I asked him if he had been drinking, and he says he had a couple of drinks with coworkers.
He made it a point to let me know that Veronica wasn’t there, he sounded condescending.
I asked him who he had drinks with, he said his boss (Amos), the president of the company (Erik) and the CEO (Dallas).
He actually decided to switch our call to a video call, which excited me.
I wasn’t prepared for this, so I felt a little insecure.
I’m not biased when I say that he’s very handsome, he’s always been the ladies favorite.
With no effort, he looked drool worthy. I felt frumpy, and unworthy.
He must have noticed, because he told me I look beautiful (I know I didn’t).
He fell asleep not too long after, and I stayed on the video call all night.
He woke up early, and I heard him shuffling around. I heard him say, “Babe…”
I opened my eyes and looked at the phone, he said good morning.
He apologized for falling asleep on the phone, and I said I didn’t mind.
For a brief moment, I felt like I had my husband back.
He said he loved me, blew me a kiss, and hung up with me to get ready for the day.
I spent the rest of the day feeling a lot better about us, and our marriage.
I was hoping he’d call me after he was done with work, but my phone was silent.
I sent him a text message saying that I hoped he had a good day at work, and it stayed on delivered.
My impatience got the better of me, I called him. It rang twice and went to voice mail, as if he had rejected the call.
I tried not to let it rile me up, but that was easier said than done.
I sent a text message asking if he had rejected my call, and he should tell me if it’s a bad time.
He responded, “Sorry, I can’t talk right now. Work stuff.”
This didn’t sit right with me, so I responded that he needs to call me ASAP.
Half an hour later and my phone lights up, so I answer him.
He’s out of breath, so I ask him what he’s doing.
He stated he was out to dinner with his boss, discussing new projects.
I pushed for an answer as to why he was out of breath, he said he had just went up a flight of stairs and out a set of doors to call me.
I reminded him that he has spoken to me many times in front of them, why is it different now?
He said it was too noisy to call me while inside. I decided to drop it for the time being.
I asked him to call me later, and allowed him to return to dinner.
11:45pm I hadn’t heard anything from him, I sent him a text to see if he was alright.
He sent a message back saying he had fallen asleep after returning to his hotel room.
That was the only message I received that night.
