Well gave in and let Chance’s friend (not girlfriend) come over

Chance: Dad, can I have a friend over, please.

Me: we need to go to the city. You need shoes

Chance: I’m good, please, Dad

Me: I guess, but if your mouth overloads, we take her home

Chance: ok, but can you please not embarrass me?

Me: when I have, I embarrassed you

Chance: mom said if I had a girl over, you would give me a hard time.

Me: Buddy, if I did, it’s because I’m giving you a hard time not being mean.

Chance: can we go riding on Buck and #13

Me: When do you plan on making time to go to the city

Chance: I don’t know, Dad, please stop about that.

Chance went and saddled the horses and tied them out, then in the house took a shower, put on his clean Sunday jeans (the only pair I didn’t mess up only because I did wash them), western shirt, boot (still don’t get that part) even his hat. He was ready. Casey’s dad brought her out we talked. I made sure it was ok for her to go riding, and found out what time she had to be home. All the things I could think of a parent should do. They took off to the horse barn as soon as she got out of their van. Her dad left. I walked to the barn to see what their plans were. I’m thinking ok, what is appropriate to let an 11yr old boy and girl do? Should I stay with them, make them just ride in the arena, or let them go ride the creek? Then it was Ok, and you’re in over your head.

Chance: rode over and leaned down in a low voice Dad, please don’t cook dinner, please I’m not being mean, but can we go eat out if Casey is still here?

Me: (trying not to laugh) Ok Buddy

Chance: can we go ride along the creek

Me: Not sure that’s a good idea. Casey is just learning to ride

Chance: Dad, if it were the guys, you would say yes that’s not fair

Me: Make sure you take a phone and no running.

Chance: Ok, and please don’t follow us. Off they went

I’m sitting here dying to go see what they are doing. Maybe I should, but don’t want a fight later. Chance has been so good today. I know it is mainly because I gave in but guess that’s ok.
