One of my best friends from when I was a lad has been in touch - it was his birthday yesterday and I always send him an e mail with news - and he phoned to say thanks - and to give me some news.
His sister, who is older, was one of my dearest friends - and kept in touch has been diagnosed with an inoperable cancer - untreatable because of her condition - all in the last two weeks. This vibrant, feisty woman is now on a morphine pump, and sinking fast. Not a great day today.
