So we went to the ear, nose and throat doctor today and Cody definitely needs tubes in both of his ears. One of them is particularly bad. The doctor said that his hearing is like how you hear underwater. Which makes me feel awful. Poor kid! And apparently since Mike and I had tubes a bunch of times when we were kids that gives our kids a 75% chance of needing them. Yikes eh? So I scheduled the surgery for June 9th. We should be in and out within 3 hours. Hopefully my MIL can take the day off work to watch Miles. I am a bit nervous since this is my baby and it's surgery but I am also interested to see how much this will affect his speech. I know a lot of people say they're amazed at how quickly their child started picking up words after getting tubes.
I also got Cody a private speech therapist this week, although now that I know his hearing is so muffled, I probably should have waited until after the surgery. He already had his first speech therapy appointment on Tuesday. The lady spent an hour playing games with him and trying to get him to sound out words like "up" and "hop" because he isn't great at making the "p" or "h" sounds yet. She said he did great and tried really hard, which made her job easier. I was watching them while I tried to keep Miles under control which wasn't easy. He was exhausted and wanted up and down and was super squirmy. I was glad when the hour was up. I couldn't believe that she basically played with him and got him to sound some stuff out over and over and it cost $120! We will get most of that back but still. Wow.
Anyway, other than that I have just been trying to get out every day with the kids. I need the exercise and it's good for them to get out. Today I will probably take them to the park since we haven't been in a few days.
Our next door neighbors who are our friends that we do game night with on Saturday nights are a lot younger than us. Mike and I are 31 and 34 and they are both 22. I am still amazed that they were able to afford a house at that age but anyway, back to my point. They don't have kids so they don't realize how exhausting kids can be. Oh and as a side note they are really mature for 22. They aren't into partying, don't do anything stupid besides smoking and they work hard at their jobs, pay their bills on time and take great care of their 4 cats and 1 dog. This Saturday they are going bowling and out to dinner for one of their birthdays with a couple family members and they want us to go. With the kids since we don't have anyone that could watch them. Omg! My husband agreed. Clearly he is crazy. 2 hours of bowling followed by 2 hours at dinner. Miles will be exhausted, Cody will be all over the place. It is going to be ridiculous. Ugh. Soooo not my idea of fun! Yes Mike will be there to help but I know my kids. They're both going to be hanging off me the whole time and likely driving me nuts. Pray for me lol.
I can't wait until Monday because me and the boys are going to visit my parents for a few days again. It's been a few weeks since we have seen them. I love their house and visiting them and the small beach town they live in. Yay! Is it Monday yet? Lol
