Did I mention the curtains? We spent a lot of money on curtains at the weekend. Last night I hung them, and almost had a disaster. They of course come flat, and one has to pull the strings to gather them all up. So I pulled the strings and forgot to tie the other end. Thus I actually pulled out the strings on one curtain. We were up until midnight rethreading the damn thing. Lucky the dragon knows a thing or two about sewing.
A plethora of unusual news stories appear in the British press today.
The Ponce of Wales has again managed to cause controversy with unguarded comments in Canada, in which he appears to compare Vladimir Putin to Hitler. Supporters of the idiot (Charles, not Putin) have suggested that his comments show how in touch he is with international outrage at the Russian president. Critics point out that he now can't possibly meet Putin without huge tension hanging over them like a cloud of mustard gas. You see, that's what our future monarch doesn't understand. I can use ironic metaphors because no one listens to me despite the fact that I am brilliant. He can't, because everything he says appears on the front pages 24 hours later, despite the fact that he is an over educated moron in an expensive suit.
A judge has suspended a murder trial in Italy after apparently spotting staff engaged in sexual activity behind a frosted glass window in an adjoining office. That is so Italian isn't it. It would seem that the prosecution was summing up the case when the judge spotted the couple and brought things to a halt. The matter has been described as "a bit delicate as one of them is married". It gets better and better doesn't it.
And what's more, the original comedy Italian, Silvio Berlusconi, is doing his level best to promote Italian cultural stereotypes after it emerged that he may, or may not, have called Angela Merkel, "an unfuckable lard-arse". He's denying it of course, but it does sound like him doesn't it. I so hope he said it.
Following on from my point yesterday about religious fanatics using people as political tools, there is a quite frightening article in today's Independent about Sharia Law in Indonesia. And also in the Telegraph a story about a group of Iranian kids who made a light-hearted video and then fell foul of the authorities for the "vulgar clip which hurt public chastity".
