Shangri-La in General

I almost got into an YouTube argument with a guy in England who claimed it was Jeff Lynn who did the falsetto outro to this song. But it is the same voice at the intro to "Rockaria" - and Kelly Groucutt is credited. He was the bass player and co-lead vocalist for ELO. I didn't even know he had died in 2009.

The night before last I went to bed early, and woke up at 3am and couldn't go back to sleep. This is not a problem for me. I got up, made coffee and watched the news.

No idea why I am such a news junkie. Other than at once upon a time it mattered to my life. Staffers have to be information sponges, so it makes sense to watch the news while you come to consciousness. In '95 everything that happened in Bosnia determined how hard the day would be.

On 9/11 I was up at midnight, cramming for my re-qual NATOPS exam. At 6am (west coast) I made coffee. and turned on the news. I was heading for the shower when X2 woke up and we talked about the dumbass who had hit the Trade Center. I was assuming a Cessna or a small private jet.

I didn't take my NATOPS exam that day, in fact couldn't get on base for a week. A week after that the only people flying wore a uniform. We were doing work in a warning area off the coast of Washington and Oregon. I didn't hear the call from the "Bigfoot":

"Unknown rider, unknown rider." Yep, that was me. They launched F-15s out of Oregon on us.

I was married for the second time soon after and deployed to Saudi a few weeks after that.

Life is.

(Funny thing is I was going to write about Audrey again. She has been haunting my dreams again.)

Clouds roll by and hide the sun, Raindrops fall on everyone, So sad, I'm getting out of love.
