I just wanted to start off by saying I. Am. Awesome! Lol. I wanted to get Miles to stop waking up at 9:30/10pm to nurse and I did it :) The first few nights I went in when he cried at that time and rubbed his back and he fell back asleep and the 4th night I tried that and he screamed louder so I left his room and 10 minutes later he fell asleep. Since then (about a week now) the first time he wakes up to nurse is somewhere in between 12 and 1:30. I can't believe it! He simply nurses for a while just before bed and I guess that fills him up a lot cuz not only has he cut out that early feeding but he only wakes up ONCE. Down from 3 times. So clearly I am elated at this development.
So we took Cody to the pediatrician and he confirmed there is a blockage of fluid in his left ear only so he will likely need tubes in that ear to drain it. This week he has an appointment with the ear, nose and throat doctor who will make the final decision. Cody also had a speech assessment on Friday. I had to fill out a bunch of forms and questions and then the lady assessing him got on the floor and played with him to see how he interacts. It turns out he is only communicating at a 12 month level. And he is almost 3 (he is 34 months). She told me that there are some basic sounds he is not even making yet like the "t" and the"p" sound. She was helping him try to make them but it clearly wasn't easy for him. He was trying though. She told me so much information that I barely remember it all. Like I need to stop giving him sippy cups and soothers and I have to get some easy, rhyming books and read the same one to him 100 times. He warmed up to the lady very easily and enjoyed playing with her farm and animal toys. The crappy part is he is back on the waiting list to get speech therapy but probably won't be seen until the winter!
We decided to get Cody a private speech therapist. Mike's work insurance covers 80% of private speech therapy up to a maximum of $350 so we'll see how much help that gets him and my parents said they would help out beyond that if we need help. I asked people on my local buy and sell group on Facebook for recommendations and it turns out a lot of them love this one lady so I am calling her today. You know, I used to think that he would learn to talk when he's ready but now I really do think he needs help since he's not even making some basic sounds yet. Plus, he starts kindergarten in 15 months, so it would be nice if he could start trying to catch up to his peers. Also, some people say that once their child got tubes, they picked up language really quickly because they could finally hear properly so we will see :)
I am so glad it is finally consistently warm out! Until recently we have been having more cold days than warm but it finally changed and so I am trying to get out with the kids every day. Yesterday we went to the library and then played in these fountains nearby where you can wade into the water up to your knees. Cody loved that so much and got soaked lol. He didn't want to leave and kept saying "wawa" trying to get me to take him back there. Afterwards, I walked with them to a hot dog stand and we ate lunch there. I brought Miles' lunch and some stuff for Cody too since I don't really like him to eat things like hot dogs and french fries too often. It was a great day out in the beautiful sunshine :)
Today I am meeting some moms and kids in the area through that meetup.com website so cross your fingers for me that I make some close friends. I love spending time with my kids but it would be so much more fun to meet up with moms and their kids regularly :)
