Didn't Mean to Fall in Love in General

The weather guessers did it again. The predicted dreary, rainy weekend has actually been fairly pleasant. Overcast a bit, but mostly sunny today.

The roads and restaurants are crammed with the first blast of summer people.

A couple my mother went to high school with is back in town. I watched their "camp" down by the water for a couple of winters - until I traded the F-150 for the Fusion. No chance I was going down into those dirt roads in the middle of a coastal Maine winter in a Fusion.

She, mom's friend, is all of 71. Completely infirm. Having mini-strokes every other day. They live most of the year in North Carolina and come to Maine for the summer. She is another example of making your own luck. Even if its bad.

The belle of the ball back in the 50s, expected that to be a forever thing. Never exercised. Smoked like a chimney until a few years ago.

Now her husband gets to lift her in and out of the car. Lift her in and out of bed. Clean up her messes. Run her to the hospital every other day. Mom isn't sure how long she'll last.

My mother on the other hand hasn't smoked since the 70s, obsesses over healthy eating and walks 5 miles a day, rain or shine. I am pretty sure she is healthier than I am.

One part is genetics - I lucked out, as did she. She has arthritis in her back and is occasionally in pain there. Still pretty spry. Same with dad.

I have some arthritis in my left ankle and toes (repeated breaks). As long as I don't sit too long my back is fine. I don't know whether to credit osteo-biflex or genetics. No headaches, no problems sleeping. Considering I am coming up on 52 I guess I can't complain.

By the numbers, tomorrow would be tomato planting day. Except I never built the raised garden bed.

The extended family of some sort of middle-eastern origin that lives behind me planted a bunch of plants in milk jugs on their patio.

They have a baby that is just barely walking, but she was having a blast running over and grabbing the milk jugs and taking off across the yard. It was hilarious to watch!

Talk about not knowing your neighbors. There are at least three middle-aged woman living there. They wear hajibs outside. There is a younger woman - I assume the mother of the baby, but she rarely goes outside. The dry their cloths outside on folding chairs year round, which indicates they don't have a drier. The man wears a bandana over his head when outside.

I've been all over the world but I don't recognize what language they are speaking. It's not eastern European and it's not Arabic.

They have a grill, and a couple of times a year they have a big grilling event where their yard fills up with people. Drinking beer. So probably not Muslim.

We can find a place for love If you want it bad enough

It's a mystery.
