Carry a garden shovel. Slam the pointed end into the ground. Get a grip. Take a step. Keep your feet well apart from each other.
Who cares how silly you look? You will look a lot sillier if you fall and can’t get up.

I also have the handle and shaft of a snow shovel that broke. Nice wide handle with a shaft that is perfect for my height.
