I think there is a law of nature that a house closing is not allowed to go off without a hitch.

Thankfully I think I found mine and it's been settled.

In the HUD I looked at yesterday, the property taxes for the second half of 2013 were being credited to the buyer because they hadn't been paid yet. Of course, because I like to be overprepared, I checked my escrow account this morning and it was at $500. Two days ago it was at $5,500! They paid the second half of the property taxes yesterday, of all days. Fortunately I even thought to look. So I had to call the bank, get the title company on the phone, get everything revised so the buyers could close later today. The bank faxed over a letter confirming they had indeed paid it and the documents are being rewritten now. And I don't have to go back in to sign anything.

The good news is that we are getting more cash up front, in two separate checks. Escrow accounts are paid in one check, no matter what, and $5,500 is a lot of money to trust to your ex spouse. $500 isn't so bad. Not that I think he would do anything with it, but it's the principle.

I should be a lot richer tonight around five.

It's weird, you know? That I will no longer be a homeowner for the next month and a half. Very weird.
