Imaginary Friends in Day to Day

The weather was beautiful this weekend, so I took advantage of the fact and spent some time on the allotment. It's not quite fully used, but it's looking much better than last year and I am particularly looking forward to raspberries and black currents. I've sprayed slug pellets everywhere and they appear to be working. It's apparently going to rain all this week from tomorrow, which means I probably don't need to worry too much about watering.

I banged my head on a cupboard door in the kitchen on Saturday and it still hurts. I'm probably concussed.

I spent an obscene amount of money on new curtains yesterday. It's the last thing needed to bring our downstairs back to habitable status. I can't believe I bought curtains and forgot to buy hooks. I'll have to go out again ad get those tonight.

I think next week we may do a car boot sale and see if we can get rid of the old shelves and other junk that was uncovered in the operation. If we make enough money I'll take the family out for dinner.

I want to buy a music system for downstairs. It needs to play CDs, digital radio, and I really want it to connect to internet radio stations. I don't even know if that's possible. There seem to be a raft of devices out there that will wirelessly connect to any device with bluetooth. I suppose that would do. We could use the boy's iPad or one of our phones to play internet radio, or a laptop.

The more I think about religion, the more I am fascinated by just how ridiculous it is. Today all the news outlets are headlining with the Story of Abu Hamza's conviction on terrorism charges. He was found guilty in New York yesterday after years of trying to avoid extradition from UK. He likely to spend the rest of his life rotting in some foul prison for crimes he committed in the name of Islam. He's spent most of the last decade in prison in London. He's also lost both hands, and is blind in one eye due to injuries he sustained fighting for his beliefs. Say what you like about him. He is a vile individual, but that's a lot of personal sacrifice.

In the same century that we mapped the human genome and sparked up the LHC, there are still people ready to believe Muhammad flew to heaven on a winged horse. Why isn't everyone astonished by that?

Equally astonishing is the story in the Independent today suggesting that pressure is being put on the Israeli PM (Benjamin Netanyahu) by Jewish leaders because his son has a non-Jewish girlfriend. According to the Independent, Rabbi Yosef Deitch, from the United Torah Judaism party, said: "This is a stain on the Prime Minister. The Prime Minister is supposed to represent the Jewish nation and to guard Jewish identity.” Got that? The PM is "stained" because he let his son fall in love with a girl who doesn't believe in the same Jewish sky pixie as him. You know what I think? I think Rabbi Yosef Deitch is a "stain" on society for using this young couple as a political tool. I think he's a selfish and scummy individual because he thinks his own personal agenda is important enough to potentially wreck the lives and careers of other people. And he's too old for imaginary friends.
