ive been working at music summer camp this july. today started week 3. so far, things have been alright. we've had 1 kiddo get kicked out for crazy behavior and i think one of my kiddos is going to get kicked out too for the same thing. he didnt assault a teacher like the other kid did, but hes been getting into arguments with lots of other kids.
i guess hes been hitting some kids outside and he gets into arguments with others a lot. he was in my orchestra last year and has had some of these issues. today, he got into a fight with a girl in the band. from what i was told, she hit him first, so he hit back and got very angry and continued to hit her and other kids. i told him and his mom that if the behavior continued this afternoon, he was going to get kicked out. i did not know until later on that the band teacher had gotten in the middle of the two kids and he continued to try to hit her around the band teacher, which is completely unacceptable.
now my boss got an email from the band teacher. she let him know what happened this morning and then he called me. i didnt figure that i needed to send an email too and i wanted to see if he shaped up for the afternoon. camp just ended at 4pm and my boss called me at about 3:15 and kinda reamed me out for not telling him. i dunno...i know this kid and he only fights back if hes provoked, but at the same time we cant have any of that happening. thats why the other kid got kicked out. so we'll see! i asked one of the afternoon teachers to fill me in so i can email my boss. hopefully, all goes well. he did say he might have to veto me and call the kids mom and kick him out of the program.
i just feel terrible. i guess i should have emailed or called my boss right away. i thought we had cleared the situation, so thats why i didnt say anything yet. i was going to follow up this afternoon anyway...so i dunno. i just feel bad if he gets kicked out. hes one of my kids from my school and im a little embarrassed hes acting this way. theres gotta be some anger issues there. i hate disappointing my superiors too. my boss kinda yelled at me, saying that i and/or the company i work for could get sued and that we cant take this lightly. going to check my email soon to see whats going on. no idea if the afternoon teachers had emailed my boss about this kid last week...apparently he got very upset in chorus and almost threw a chair at someone. sigh
oh working for inner city kids in the bronx! never a dull moment!
