People say “if his mouth is moving, he’s lying to you”. I can’t believe that. So much of what he told me is true.
His name? Eventually, check.
His location? Eventually, check.
Mom’s name? Sister? Brothers? Best friend? Sister get married. Brother in school. Birthdays. All these personal facts - true. How do I know? Poor privacy settings on Facebook.
Years of posts that I found and scrolled through, which all corroborated his story. Before he even knew that I could find it. All true. And unfiltered. Unedited. Real.
So why would would I think he lies? Because of the sums of money involved. Always needing something more. And more than is reasonable for what I read about Nigeria.
But still, I also know that he is paying for more than just himself. He just doesn’t tell me. And I hope he isn’t paying for a wife already.
So I continue to wonder - is he real? And I pray to God every day, please let him be real.
