Today was certainly a day. My car has been in the shop since yesterday. When I called them yesterday they said that they couldn't find anything wrong with the car and that they wanted to keep it overnight to see if they could replicate the starting problem. I agreed. They called today and said that the car wasn't starting for them now. All of their diagnostics said that there was nothing wrong with the car.

He told me that he couldn't guarantee it, but he was pretty sure it wasn't starting because the valves in the engine had probably gotten mis-aligned. The issue was that he couldn't say for sure until they got into the engine and it was a $600 fix. I said I'd think it over and call them back.

I posted the issue on a Honda Fit forum and someone responded saying that in their opinion the diagnosis seemed reasonable. However, they said that something like that should cost $300-$400, not $600. I called them back and said other places said that they could do it cheaper. Keep in mind, I already owe this place $90 for looking at the car and running diagnostics. I talked the guy down to $525 and said to go ahead and do it.

The next two people who posted on the forum sounded pretty skeptical that the car wouldn't start from mis-aligned engine valves. The mechanic was very honest in that he couldn't say for sure, so I'm expecting a call tomorrow saying that it didn't fix it and I owe them $525. I probably should've gotten a second opinion, but the car isn't starting so it's not like it's easy to get it 20 miles to the closest Honda dealership. We'll see.

I did hear from the job in Iowa. I saw on my phone that I had an e-mail from them and I was really excited because I thought that this was the perfect position for me. The e-mail thanked me for applying and informed me that even though they didn't pick me, I would be in their system for six months for any other open positions.

Upon reading that I was immediately devastated and wanted to just leave work to go home and sulk. Then I remembered that I didn't have a working car...

Overall, it was a pretty sucky day. On and up, I suppose.
