For the past two days my area has been subjected to a heavy pounding rain soaking the ground. Furthermore tomorrow is more of the same. Hope is telling me that in the reverse of normal Seashore weather that the weekend could be sunny and dry. I'll believe it when In see it.
Yesterday as part of my attempt to get a State/Federal grant to raise my house I had engineers at my house to do soil sampling. In the process of their work they had to remove pavers from the front of my house. I am hoping for a dry spell on Saturday to replace them.
The house is in a Zone where I have to raise it by 5 feet. The grant would pay for this. The soil testing will determine what type foundation I will need; cinder block or pilings. There is no gun to my head to raise the house immediately but when it is sold it must be lifted. That would have a effect on what I can sell the house for as the buyer would look for me to assume the costs. If I am able to obtain the grant then that would be a positive in my favor. I will also look at the cost of raising it 6 feet to allow for a garage under the house rather than just storage space. A lot of the cost in raising a house is in reconnecting utilities, plumbing and the like.
My fingers are crossed hoping for a favorable decision on my application. To complete it I need cost estimates and architects plan. I am getting close.
