I have always found it odd, that a person is not dead until a doctor pronounces them dead. I mean, what are you if they don’t find you for days? I know, missing, right? But I would still be just as dead.
While surfing through the guide on my t.v. I came across a movie from 2019, Countdown. First off, I do not like horror movies of any kind. Give me a good western, comedy, or love story, but keep the Friday the 13th for yourself.
Countdown does present a fascinating question. Would you want to know when you are going to die? The answer is easy for me......NOOOOOOO. And I don’t want to know how either. My cardiologist told me 5 years ago he could promise I would not die from a heart attack. He then told me it would be a ruptured Aorta that would most likely do me in. Great! That doesn’t sound like any fun to me.
I have a countdown clock on my computer at work. As of today, I have 2 years, 3 months, 21 days until I retire. The problem is, will I reach retirement before the rupture? Truth be told, I don’t want to know. Just let me live my life. There is little I can do about it anyway. The best I can hope for is to die in my sleep.

Check out the book Machine of Death and its sequel This Is How You Die; they're anthologies with the premise that there's a cheap and easy blood test that will tell you your cause of death. But it doesn't always mean what it sounds like. "Old age" could mean being shot by a senior citizen. "Natural causes" could mean a tree fell on you. But even knowing what's coming, it remains inevitable.

Lots of fascinating ideas about societal ramifications. People who will die of cancer are in high demand for dangerous work, because it's known they won't have fatal accidents. People whose astrological sign is Cancer are in high demand as assassins for a similar logical reason. Kids split up by cause of death in school; future suicides get pre-emptive counseling to help them defer their death as long as possible.

Old age shot by senior citizen..LOL Good one.

Separate from the books, you might reconsider the deadline for your retirement. Nothing stops you from choosing to retire sooner; you just have different life situations that need to be solved as part of preparing to retire.

Time of death on a found body is determined by state of rigor mortis and other factors as they apply to the specific case

Ah yes, I forgot my years of CSI! But am I still alive or dead until then? LOL

LOL

well if rigor mortis state was 100% that is usually reached 15-20 hours depending on temperature conditions in surrounding area body weight

Clinically speaking you're dead when your heart stops sending blood and electric to your brain and brain stops sending to body ...

....Catholically speaking your dead when some old Italian lady finds your dead body in front of a college campus after Sam berkowitz murders your and blood is oozing out of your head and she cries in Italian and recites the rosaries...

I mean it's all semantics really
