Geared up... in Everyday Rants...

So I talked to the owner’s son about my van today. Apparently, whatever caused my transmission to slip was irreparable. I didn’t get to ask about it until the end of the day, so I don’t know the details, but it wasn’t as simple as I was hoping, like a fluid issue or clutch packs failing. So, they’re replacing the entire transmission. Mind you, my van has 192,600 miles on it, (Only reason I remember that is I keep a mileage/time/job log that I made up myself.) so I guess considering it was used by the local utility who hauled a bunch of stuff around for 150k-160k miles, then I’ve been hauling around a bunch of tools and parts since, it’s gotten some heavy usage. But still, my personal truck has over 220k miles on it, is on its original transmission, and has never given me any issues. Well.... okay, the transmission in my truck is a heavier duty unit (3/4 ton truck with a turbo-diesel engine) and the van is a lighter duty (smaller gas V8 and basically a “heavy half-ton” chassis), but still, they’re both meant to work. Unless there’s something I’m missing, I can’t imagine this is my fault. I don’t tow with it, and I don’t drive it hard. I’m more careful with it, as it’s the first work truck I’ve not inherited from another tech, with pre-existing conditions. Meh.

Today was one of those days where it would have been really nice to have had my van with all my tools and supplies in it, versus the spare truck with minimal tools and supplies. Went to fix a gate opener and add an eye to it so they can just drive up to it, and it’ll open, and the customer was (I thought) supposed to run the wire, and didn’t. That’s okay, I couldn’t do crap anyway. I replaced the control board, plugged it in, and discovered the power board was toasted. Greeeaaaaaaat. More parts required, disappointed customer, and an annoyed me. Though I did get one easy fix on roll up grille gate, that ended up being exactly what I thought it was when R relayed the symptoms she was told to me. That is an incredibly rare occurrence.

I ended up going to the grocery store last night, instead of Saturday. I’d probably been better off had I gone Saturday instead of last night. Made eye contact with this REALLY cute brunette, who, has been stuck in my head all day. She seemed really sweet, and had very kind eyes. I wish I could have seen her smile. Don’t misunderstand, she was beautiful, the issue is that my mind has just absolutely tortured the hell out of me with her today. Which today was the worst day for that kinda thing, cause I had to spend a fair chunk of the day driving, so there’s really not much to distract my mind with when I’m on the road. Even music didn’t help. At least she saw me when I was all nicely dressed and looking my best. Meh. There’s another face I’ll never see again, and no chance.... anyway.

This wet grey crap is really getting to me. I already am having issues with motivation. This crap doesn’t help. I’m gonna go unwind and see if I can dull my mind for a while. Hopefully not get harassed by my subconscious tonight. Oh, and I know I botched some of the last entry, leaving out words. I’m not a morning person, and trying to type some things out on my phone isn’t the best of ideas. Now ya know.
